Teething Tablets and Other Remedies for Your Baby

When babies grow, they will also grow teeth. This teething phenomenon usually makes them cranky and fussy, although one should take note that the symptom of teething problems tend to vary from child to child. In general, kids aged between 4 to 7 months old will become a bundle of trouble as they struggle to grow their very first set of teeth. To counter this problem, teething tablets are introduced into the market to help babies numb the sensation of growing teeth in their tender mouths. Besides pain, teething can actually lead to various health conditions and infections as well as the new teeth roots are also pressuring the ear canal and sinuses of the baby during the growth process. Symptoms of baby requiring teething tablets include swelling, diarrhoea, pain or redness in gums, drooling, biting and lack of sleep.

Teething Tablets

Teething tablets are basically medicated tablets used to temporarily relieve the toddler from teething symptoms. To treat teething with teething tablets, all you need to do is place a couple of tablets under the infant's tongue. The teething tablets will then dissolve and numb the pain at the gums. These tablets should be administered at least four to five times every day for maximum effectiveness.

Because teething tablets are fed to babies with lower immune systems, it is important to ensure that the tablets you feed your offspring is as natural as possible. Make sure that your teething tablets are made from ingredients such as Coffea Cruda, Chamomilla, Calcarea Phosphorica and Belladonna. These organic substances work great at reducing swelling, pain and inflammation at your baby's gums.

The Problem with Teething Tablets

Belladonna is included in teething tablets because this ingredient can calm your infant and cure teething symptoms such as headaches, inflammation and soreness of the gums as well as diarrhoea. Having said that, Belladonna is also known to cause dry mouth, vomiting and constipation so you should always read the instructions that come with your teething tablets before administrating it to your sick child.

Generally, teething tablets are viewed at homeopathic remedies, but this medicine is just as liable to cause undesirable side effects. For instance, chamomilla, another popular ingredient is meant to help calm your baby down. Having said that, it is important to make sure that your baby is not allergic to ragweed before taking such teething tablets.

Other Remedies

Before running to your nearest pharmacy and buying teething tablets, consider other remedies for your child's teething problems instead.

The easiest temporary remedy would have your kid eat cold food and drink plenty of cold water in order to relieve the pain in the gums. A great fruit for this occasion would be a frozen banana or yoghurt. Alternatively, allow your baby to suck on a bottle of cold water. Next, have your baby chew on a clean, cold cloth as the act of chewing relieves pressure from the gums.

Teething Ring

Another great option would be to use teething rings such as liquid filled rings or rubber rings that will prevent your child from chewing on other objects that may be detrimental to its health. Other teething rings include those made from solid silicone as well. Silicone teething rings are the best option as it is the only type of ring that can be repeatedly sterilized without being prone to leakage or any form of damages.

Before utilizing your teething rings, always make it a habit of refrigerating the rings beforehand. This is done in order to ensure that the liquid in the rings are cold enough to relieve gum pain during the chewing motion.

Teething Biscuits

Teething biscuits are literally biscuits that will help your child deal with the teething process. To create your very own teething biscuit, you will need one cup of sugar with two quarters of flour with one teaspoon of vanilla and two eggs. Begin by beating both the eggs until you achieve a frothy texture. Next, mix in the rest of the ingredients to create a cookie dough mixture. Roll out your dough and create your teething rings and do make sure that they are large enough for your baby to comfortably chew on.

After your teething rings have been dried out over night, bake the rings at 325 Fahrenheit degrees in your oven for about thirty minutes. Do note that teething biscuits are only suitable for babies that have already begun eating solid food (i.e. over 6 months old). One potential problem with teething biscuits is that some parents feel that their child may not be prepared to take in such high amount of sugar yet.

Finger Massaging

One can also attempt to gently massage your baby's gums but such an exercise should be done carefully to prevent further worsening the problem. Make sure that your finger is sterilized before you stick it in your baby's mouth. Also, be prepared to have your baby throw a tantrum at you as nobody really likes to have a finger shoved in their mouth. Having said that, the massaging exercise will be soothing and pretty soon your baby will enjoy the finger massage.
